When Sue Schmitt, Senior Collateral Specialist, first started working at FHLB Des Moines she worked at the check processing center “before there were ATM cards!” 35 years later, Sue has continued to be a core member of our daily operations and stands out as one of the most recognizable faces in the Collateral Department.
On the collateral team, Sue’s main focus is helping members in any way she can from guiding members through our website and educating new members on our collateral processes, to working with pledging and releasing of assets and reviewing collateral submissions for accuracy.
“By far, the members motivate me. I try to be a committed member advocate by answering member questions, making sure they understand our processes and listening to what they have to say.”
Besides her passion for providing member value, Sue has stayed at FHLB Des Moines because of the emphasis the Bank puts on teamwork. She sees teamwork play out every day with her co-workers in the Collateral Department through their continued support, group problem solving and willingness to pitch in when someone’s workload is especially heavy.
When Sue is not working, she enjoys bike riding, kayaking, reading, traveling and spending time with family. If you need a good brewery recommendation, you should ask Sue! She and her husband have visited 75 breweries around the country and plan to keep growing that list for years to come.
